Come have fun debating with friends on topics like Space Exploration, Homework, Zoos, and more! Hone your persuasive argument, public speaking, empathy, and teamwork skills. DebateAble is the only after school Debate Club for 4th and 5th graders – no experience necessary. Debate Club meetings are full of games and other activities that help students learn to formulate and present arguments, as well as listen, understand, and respond to the arguments of others. Elisha Nottingham, who is also an Occupational Therapist at View Ridge and a debate aficionado, will lead the class.

Make your move with One on One at View Ridge Elementary as we explore the world of jazz dance. We will learn various individual moves each week as we build strength, flexibility and coordination through creative dance. We will learn how to function in a cohesive group and work together towards our final goal of performing for family at the final session! During this fun-filled course, we’ll explore the outdoors and let nature inspire our writing. Through games and engaging activities, students will learn the key elements of fiction, poetry, and non-fiction as they write stories and poems about the animals and plants they find through their daily hikes. Shiver me timbers as we explore the popular culture behind the life of a pirate using LEGO bricks. Build a motorized pirate ship, a capstan, a helm and an anchor, as we batten down the hatches and prepare for mutiny. Protect the hands on deck by building a launching trebuchet. Beware me mateys, if it’s too late, you must abandon ship and build a rowboat to escape. Anchors aweigh!

Students are invited to learn a skill they will use for a lifetime and a hobby they will forever enjoy…sewing! No experience necessary for boys and girls to learn the basics and beyond. Beginning students will learn machine safety and beginner sewing techniques, while the more experienced students can expand on skills they already have. Student will advance at their own pace to more exciting and challenging projects throughout the session. Projects, which are constantly rotating during the quarter, include backpacks, phone cases, clothing, accessories, bags, games, stuffed animal and more! All sewing classes are supervised by Chelsea Cook, owner of Little Hands Creations.

Students learn important, everyday language through exciting thematic units and a wide variety of interactive games, activities, songs and art projects. Voyage with us from Sea to Shining Sea as we create art in a wide variety of mediums that are sure to capture the creativity of every child. We will explore seascapes, ocean life, lighthouses, and more while learning from masters in art such as Edward Hopper, Winslow Homer and Henri Matisse! Catch a wave with us into Japanese art, look below the ocean surface in a submarine, and take a walk along the sandy beach picking up sea shells. Want to become a coding ace and write your own games? Join the Coding with Kids programming club! In just a few weeks, you will be creating your own animations and computer games that you can share and play with family and friends. We teach real coding concepts in a fun way. Students also develop important life skills, such as critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, perseverance, and time management skills. The programming tool we use in class is Scratch (scratch.mit.edu), a drag-and-drop environment developed by MIT Labs for elementary and middle school students. No typing skills required. Scratch provides lots of creative outlets, such as backgrounds, characters, sounds and colors, which makes programming even more fun! Come explore the Dramatic Arts with Wedgwood Drama Studio! This supportive and fun filled class is open to all View Ridge students K-2nd or 3rd– 5th grade. The other is open to Kindergarten to 2nd graders. Through theater games and exercises, students will explore how actors use their bodies, voices and imaginations to tell stories and create characters. Whether you are new to the stage or consider yourself a veteran performer there will be something for everyone in this creative class. A final sharing of some of the students’ work
